Playing Surface

In 2004 artificial turf surfaces were introduced into the Laws of the Game and it was during the summer 2005, when the club secured the backing of 2 local businessmen, that the FIFA recommended 1 Star Football Turf pitch was installed at Woodley Sports Centre.

Before the pitch was installed, Woodley Sports Football Club had on average approximately 10 matches which had to be postponed due to the poor playing surface. The beauty therefore of having the artificial surface, meant not only there were no further postponements but also providing the club with a much needed income stream by being able to hire the facility to the general public.

Since the pitch was installed, maintenance costs have dropped, however different types of maintenance are still very much needed and crucial for longevity, performance and safety.

With regards to footwear, it is recommended that astro-trainers or moulded studs are worn. This will not only ensure the pitch will not sustain any damage, but also for the players own safety.
